  • New arrivals at CherSoft

We are very pleased to welcome some new faces to the CherSoft team.

CherSoft is constantly trying to better understand how mariners use our products in order to provide a better experience. We've now taken this a step further by appointing Roger Jones as Master Mariner to CherSoft. Roger obtained his Master Foreign-Going Certificate in 1968 and is an extremely experienced seafarer with decades of experience on many classes of vessel, from Ro/Ro ferries to small commercial craft. Since retiring he has become a keen yachtsman, sailing extensively in the Atlantic and Pacific. Roger adds to the wealth of nautical expertise at CherSoft and provides an invaluable link between us and our end-users.

Also joining us is Owen Johnson, who joins us as part of the AtoBviaC Distance Tables team. Owen will be helping us to maintain the highest-quality ships' routeing database in the world, covering over 3,000 ports worldwide, and trusted by some of the biggest names in the shipping and offshore sectors.

  • Pay As You Sail

CherSoft is pleased to announce that our Pay As You Sail system has gone into production with Iver C. Weilbach & Co following type approval from DNV-GL.

CherSoft's PAYS system incorporates onboard satellite vessel tracking, back-of-bridge online updating of official charts, and effective back-office tools for fleet management - helping to ensure shipowners only pay for the charts they use, and that mariners always have access to the most up-to-date official charts for voyage planning and navigation.

CherSoft PAYS is compatible with all types of ECDIS and none. It is suitable for individual vessels and entire fleets alike. The system can also be licensed as a turnkey solution for chart agents who wish to offer PAYS to their clients.

PAYS is a new and rapidly growing segment of the electronic chart market, and CherSoft is extremely excited to be a part of it. For more information on the benefits for mariners, shipowners, and chart agents, visit our PAYS information page.

  • CherSoft sponsors student hackathon

Here at CherSoft we're always keen to build relationships in our local community. To this end we've been visiting the universities of the great city of Sheffield over the last few months, hoping to meet the coding prodigies of the next generation - as well as getting to see some extremely cool hacks...

    The Diamond

We were delighted to sponsor HackSheffield, our local Major League Hacking stop, hosted at the University of Sheffield's magnificent Diamond building - a purpose-built centre for teaching engineering. Teams of intrepid students worked around the clock for 24 hours to build cool stuff, with CherSoft running a competition for the best use of geospatial data.

    Hacking in progress

The judging was extremely tough, with plenty of fantastic hacks to choose from, but Team FootFall walked away with the CherSoft prize (a quadcopter each) along with 2nd place in the overall competition.

We frequently visit careers events as well - if you didn't catch us at the Autumn Jobs Fair, we'll be talking to maths students on 14 April and have numerous other events in the pipeline. And if you're a talented student programmer seeking a summer internship or heading for graduation, we'd love to hear from you. Here's more about working for us.
